About printing color you need to know

Printing color problem is an unavoidable topic in printed packaging project, but how to make sure the final printed result will be same or as much as possible to the original design.

Color Model: First of all, there are two kind of printing color model can be used for printing, CMYK and PMS (Pantone) color. Every printing job can be design and finished in CMYK color, but if you want a more vivid, outstanding, quality and stable printing for your printing stuffs, better to choose a color from PMS(Pantone). Sometime most high-end printing packaging was designed in both color for complex design, yes, that would be a good choice to get a beautiful print packaging, but also will raise the cost for producing, also cylinder cost, flexo-printing and gravure-printing especially. The iteration of packaging usually happens from 1 to 3 years, so it won’t a bad idea to use a simple design at start, spends can be more when revenue looks good and profit fit well.

Color shading: this also an unavoidable problem once color and design was approved, no matter how you prepared, the final result will definitely not exactly same as the mockup looks on PC. The factor affect are much, so every single batch can’t be exactly same as last shipment as well, even pantone color can looks different in different version. So the best way to solve this is bear with the color shading but define a range for it. Thus all the packaging printed will be looks pretty much same, the color shading only in a small range, we usually not only keep the record of approved printing sample, but also a upper limit and lower limit.
